Amp’d and MTV: Made for Mobile

MTV Networks and multimedia cell phone provider Amp’d Mobile have announced a deal to produce and distribute an original made-for-mobile video series.

The show will appear within an MTV Networks channel within Amp’d Live, the provider’s entertainment portal.

The un-named show will be exclusively available on the Amp’d network and will follow in the footsteps of other successful MTV mobile shows like “Sucks Less, With Kevin Smith,” a production of mtvU and “Lil’ Bush: Resident of the United States,” a production of Comedy Central, MTV’s sister network under the Viacom umbrella.

In December, MTV and Amp’d announced that “Lil’ Bush” would be making the leap to television.

“MTV Networks and Amp’d Mobile are building an entirely new model for the creation, development and distribution of short-form programming for consumers to access on their handset,” said Greg Clayman, MTV’s SVP of Mobile Media in a statement. “This process also will help us cultivate an entirely new generation of young filmmakers who are inspired to create works of art that can live on any screen.”

Original programming accounted for 39% of Amp’d's downloads, according to Amp’d SVP of content and programming Seth Cummings. MTV Networks meanwhile keeps the rights to retool the series for distribution on other platforms should it follow in the footsteps of “Lil’ Bush.”
