Reuters Feeling Plucky About Blogs
Newswire service Reuters Group Plc has invested $7 million in media syndication company Pluck Corp, and has agreed to syndicate blog posts through its global media distribution network.
Pluck’s blog syndication network, BlogBurst, spans more than 2,800 blogs covering everything from food and travel to tech, politics, and sports. BlogBurst’s model already syndicates blogs to major media outlets like the Washington Post and Gannett. Through the Reuters partnership, BlogBurst blogs will gain access to Reuters’ worldwide network, which Pluck hopes will increase the renown and traffic received by BlogBurst blogs.
According to Reuters media president Chris Ahearn, the deal will give Reuters customers a foot in the door of social media. “With Pluck, we will help our worldwide media partners offer their readers smart and fast access to the best in the blogosphere,” said Ahearn in a statement. “This is part of Reuters continuing strategy to embrace new digital platforms, including user-generated and moderated content as well as community tools, to deliver next-generation news and information.”
Over the next few weeks, BlogBurst blogs will be added to Reuters.com and eventually offered to Reuters syndication partners as part of its news syndication package.
