Mercora.com
What they do: Mercora.com is a peer-to-peer music sharing service that lets users listen to each others songs over the internet. But unlike other sharing services that the RIAA disapproves of, instead of letting users download songs, Mercora lets users stream songs over the internet, turning each user into an online DJ. Mercora’s stated goal is to make the world’s music searchable.
Music listeners can search for songs by artist, album, genre or biography and then play those songs back through Mercora’s IMRadio software client for PC or the Mercora M for Windows Mobile and PocketPC smart phones.
Why you should buy: Mercora caters to music enthusiasts, and those users typically spend an average of 203 minutes using the website or the client at a stretch, more than Yahoo, MSN, or AIM. The site gets about 2 million views a day. Most users are between 18 and 34. The average user spends about 42 minutes listening to music through Mercora per day, and more than half buy at least 10 CD’s a year.
Format/how much (contact for rates): Mercora places contextual text links and graphical banners on search result pages within the Mercora website and the standalone client. The client contains a separate pane specifically for image ads. Ads can target users according to what music they’re listening to or have in their library, as well as by geography and computer hardware setup.
