Indie rock magazine Relix has announced that it will begin publishing issues online starting in November. The online edition will be identical to the print one, and will be powered by Zendition, an in-house developed platform. The online version will be free for print subscribers and include more interactive features like hotlinks for advertisers and streaming music. Relix is also putting its sister publication, Global Rhythm, online as well. The Zendition platform is designed to replicate the print magazine experience.
“In order to satisfy our needs we determined early on that we’d have to create our own software,” said Relix publisher Steve Bernstein in a statement. “We wanted to ensure that this went beyond simply putting the magazine online and added value to both our readers and advertisers. The reaction from other magazines has been incredible and we will be launching digital versions of other publications in the near future.”
The publication will also be licensing its Zendition platform for other publishers who wish to do the same.
