CSTV, a division of CBS Corp. is offering 100 broadband IPTV channels filled with live college sporting events. Each channel represents a “virtual arena.” With the “arenas” in tow, CSTV will present more than 10,000 individual events over the next year, complete with audio, video, press conference data feeds, news, features, archived games, ticketing and ecommerce.
“Exclusive Internet content has become a vital element as we segue from a mass media to a personalized media world,” said CSTV CEO Brian Bedol in a statement. “Oftentimes the only way passionate communities of college sports fans can stay connected and catch every play of every game is through original broadband content… CSTV has made it possible for every university to have its own broadband channel.”
Fans who want to follow individual schools or athletic programs can customize their own channels and choose from more than 100 schools. Each channel is named for its respective school, such as the “Fighting Irish All- Access” channel, which gives each channel its own look and feel. The broadband service is powered by software from thePlatform, Maven Networks, and Akamai. CSTV digital sponsors include Coca-Cola, Pontiac and State Farm.
