BlogHer Launches Ad System for Female Bloggers

BlogHer, a community dedicated to promoting expanding the opportunities available to female bloggers, initially launched a blog advertising service in May for parenting bloggers.

Spurred on by demand, BlogHer has officially launched graphic and contextual blog ad network BlogHerAds for bloggers of all subjects. BlogHer manages all the technical details and the relationships with the advertisers. Blog publishers just need to add BlogHer ad units to their sites. The system also promotes participating blogs on the BlogHer network by adding related links after each banner ad.

“I’m unapologetically proud of the fact that BlogHer LLC is able to help our women bloggers earn additional revenue from their blogs,” wrote BlogHer co-founder Lisa Stone on her own blog after the BlogHer 2006 conference in August, when BlogHerAds was first announced. “With our ad network, bloggers are able to charge the same advertising rates as national content sites such as iVillage and some of the best-trafficked blogs.”

BlogHerAds is intensively geared towards female bloggers and advertiser who want to reach the female demographic. According to a survey conducted by BlogHer during their BlogHerAds test release, more than 90% of the readers reached by the network are female. BlogHerAds participants have the option to refuse ads by certain advertisers. Advertisers are guaranteed banner ad placement above the fold, and the network uses 24/7 Real Media for third-party placement services.
