Wired Debuting Sonibyte-Powered Podcast
After a successful pilot that yielded tens of thousands of downloads, Wired.com, in cooperation with digital audio provider Sonibyte, has decided to release a regular podcast based on the existing Wired News columns and blog content. The podcast is available through the Wired website, iTunes, and various podcast directories. Users can also download individual articles right on the main page.
“We are excited to offer our content in this new medium to our readers. We cover emerging technologies, so it’s natural for us to embrace podcasting. We leverage our existing content for very low cost and making it available for listening as well as reading. We have been pleased with Sonibyte’s service to date and the turnkey nature of their service,” said Wired News managing editor Leander Kahney in a statement.
The Wired podcast will feature professional voiceovers and Wired columnists reading their content. Wired.com, the online counterpart to the Wired print magazine, was recently re-acquired by Condé Nast after having been a property of Lycos since 1999. Sonibyte specializes in digital audio services including podcast production. Eventually Wired.com intends to convert even more content into downloadable audio.

For a title like Wired, tens of thousands of dowloads is nothing to write home about. Heck, we are doing more than that in our little travel and lifestyle niche. Guess it’s still time to position yourself against the big boys in the burgeoning podcast industry!
