TNT Simulcasting PGA Championship on PGA.com
TNT and PGA.com have teamed up to provide extra coverage of the 2006 PGA Championship. The PGA blitz will start with 11 hours of TV-based coverage featuring TNT and CBS announcers. PGA.com will simulcast TNT’s on-air video. PGA.com will also be streaming an additional five hours of online-only coverage from the first two rounds of the championship. CBS, TNT’s broadcast partner will cover the later rounds on the weekend when the championship ends.
“One of the benefits of providing six hours of simulcast coverage on Thursday and Friday is to build interest and viewership of the PGA Championship on TNT,” said David Levy, president of Turner Sports in a statement. “This landmark multi-platform experience is the perfect example of how, with the help and tremendous access provided by our friends at The PGA of America, we can leverage our expertise and technology to enhance our network coverage giving the fan the most complete two-screen experience. We wanted to debut this big idea at a big event, and what could be better than to do so at a major championship.”
Visitors to the PGA.com site will be able to choose from one of four video streams. The first stream, called Greenside Live, will show the championship from the same viewpoint as the broadcast coverage on TNT. The second stream, called the Player Cam, will let viewers follow one particular playing group as they battle it out in the game rankings. The third stream, called Inside the Ropes, will feature course flyovers, player profiles, historical clips, and special coverage from inside the PGA press room. And the fourth stream, the PGA Learning Center, will be hosted by Rick Martino, the PGA’s Director of Instruction, and will treat site visitors to pro golf tips.
