Google to Utilize MTV Clips for AdSense Visual

In a move to expand its advertising network and video portal, Google has formed an alliance with MTV Networks to insert video into AdSense. While AdSense currently relies primarily on text and images, the agreement will, according to Reuters, allow Google to experiment with clips from MTV Network shows including “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Laguna Beach,” and “The MTV Video Music Awards.” By incorporating these clips into Google Ads, MTV also gains promotional opportunity. The clips will further be imbedded with mini-ads that MTV will sell to third parties.

If the arrangement works, Google may begin allowing a variety of content companies to utilize AdSense and split the ad revenue. Revenue will also be shared with the Web sites carrying the 2-4 minute clips. Google will begin testing the video-integrated ad system at the end of the month.

In addition to the advertising portion of the deal, a wide range of full-length episodes from Viacom-owned MTV will be available on Google’s video portal for $1.99 each.
