Google Sued Over Click Fraud…Again

Call it deja vu, but once again, Google has to defend itself from allegations that it’s liable for fraudulent clicks incurred over its AdWords network. Philadelphia attorney Samuel Lassoff says that click fraud cost two of his web sites: coupons-and-promotions.com and winatshopping.com, about $1000. He filed a class action suit in the US district court of Pennsylvania on August 10th that accuses Google of unfair business practices, negligence, and breach of contract in connection to click fraud. Lassoff is also serving as the lead attorney in the suit.

The complaint says that in late 2005, Lassoff “received an invoice regarding his Pay Per Click advertrising, where it was discovered that plaintiff was the victim of hundreds of dollars worth of fraudulent clicks,” and that Google “engaged in a scheme to hide their negligent handling of plaintiff’s advertising account.” The complaint also says that Google never warned Lassoff about click fraud and never tried to get his money back.

Before other parties can join the suit, the judge has to approve it as a class-action. Lassoff wants to have the lawsuit approved on both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Google settled its last click fraud lawsuit for $90 million.
