According to various reports, Google will supply eBay with international text advertising. EBay currently relies on Yahoo for all of its US ads. The agreement with the top online auction site is part of a string of deals for Google that include an earlier announcement of Web video syndication with MTV Networks and an ad deal with MySpace.

Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay, said the site decided to give Google’s advertisers access to its international auction sites because of the search company’s respective strengths and ability to mesh with eBay’s assets.

Google and eBay have also launched a click-to-call advertising functionality that leverages Skype and Google Talk globally in each company’s respective shopping and search platforms. Web users can place telephone calls through their computers or mobile devices when they click on a link in an Internet ad.

“We have a chance to create a whole new way for buyers and sellers to connect online and to create what we hope will be a significant revenue stream for both eBay and Google,” said Whitman.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that the overlap of services and partnerships between eBay, Google, and Yahoo are all part of Silicon Valley’s effort to respond to tech-savvy shoppers who want service in a hurry. “This is all about speed,” he said. “The moment somebody wants to buy something, we want that advertiser to be able to sell it, hawk it or do whatever they want with it.”

Schmidt would not disclose the length of the agreement, but both aspects of the deal are set to begin early in 2007.
