AOL Wins GameDaily

As part of its strategy to capitalize on Web advertising dollars by purchasing fast-growing Internet entertainment properties, Time Warner-owned AOL has purchased GameDaily. According to a Reuters report, the videogame news and review website caters to a primarily male gaming community within the ages of 18-34, arguably the most coveted advertising demographic.

GameDaily, which had been privately held by Gigex, also publishes a trade website for video game industry professionals. AOL will keep the GameDaily brand within its AOL Games division and bolster its editorial staff. The effort to expand its portfolio of online information and entertainment reflects AOL’s gradual move towards increasing advertising revenue as it overhauls its subscription-based business.
