Symantec Offers Security on Yahoo Network

In the ongoing battle between Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo to be the dominant Internet service provider, Yahoo has made another move, this time with Internet security. A Reuters report has announced that Yahoo and Symantec Corp. have joined hands to provide Yahoo users with Symantec’s Norton Internet Security product. While Symantec will have access to the wide range of Yahoo customers, Yahoo will be able to assure Internet security for users within all Internet activities, from banking and travel planning to job searches. Following a free 30 day trial, Yahoo users can purchase a 12-month subscription to Norton Internet Security with a $20 discount.

“Internet security is important to our Yahoo users and by working with Symantec, we are bringing the comfortable security blanket that their Norton brand services provide to consumers,” said Stephen Miller, director, product management, Yahoo.

The Internet Security service will be marketed throughout the Yahoo network, including Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Toolbar, and Yahoo search. Symantec will also offer Norton Spyware scan and a co-branded toolbar to offer more direct links to other security tools. It currently offers antivirus scanning for Yahoo e-mail users.
