ShopLocal, Topix.net Team for ZIP Code-Based Ad System
Ecommerce and online local comparison shopping provider ShopLocal has teamed up with online local news service Topix.net to create a new advertising service that targets local users with products from their hometown sales circulars. The new system combines Topix.net’s local news targeting technology with ShopLocal’s SmartMedia system. Each rich media banner ad serves up local offers, targeted by ZIP code. Advertisers will also have the tools to develop their own localized ads and create their own custom local distribution channels.
“For years, ShopLocal has been committed to helping retailers reach local audiences on the Web,” said ShopLocal CEO Brian Hand in a statement. “Now, through our SmartMedia technology and Topix.net’s ability to pinpoint local audiences, we’ve shrunk the Web down to size, allowing advertisers a simple way to market a very complex set of local offerings and increase their Web-to-store sales.”
People search for local news on Topix.net by ZIP code. Now, those local news stories will appear next to banner-based sales circulars, letting people see what’s for sale in their own neighborhood. One of the first advertisers to jump onboard is Walgreens, and the ad program is open to all nationwide local advertisers.
