HP Expands PC Marketing Campaign Online

The three latest “The Computer is Personal Again” HP video ads premiered online Wednesday before they hit the airwaves. The first two ads, featuring hip-hop artist and CEO of Def Jam Records Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and U.S. Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White, generated positive buzz in the blogosphere. The next three ads feature TV producer and Survivor creator Mark Burnett, Dallas Mavericks owner and HDNet founder Mark Cuban, and songwriter and musician Pharrell Williams. Each ad illustrates how an HP computer integrates with each celebrity’s everyday life.

“We are seeing great interest in the number of blog links and online buzz created by the first two ad spots,” said David Roman, HP Personal Systems Group’s VP of marketing in a statement. “Online video sites and their prominence in the blog community are today’s ‘word-of-mouth,’ providing a very personal avenue to help HP reach an audience that doesn’t necessarily respond to traditional media, but who will watch an ad online if it’s been recommended by a well-liked blogger or a friend.”

HP is trying to capitalize on the viral momentum with additional interactive features on the HP website. Visitors can upload photos of themselves and create their own “The Computer is Personal” ad spots, which they can then share on their blog, or email to a friend.
