MusoFinder Launches Global Tagging Engine for Musicians

MusoFinder.com is aiming to build an online musician community based on the idea of “Folksonomy,” a system where Internet users categorize web content, with the launch of a new global tagging search engine. More than 25,000 musicians in the UK already utilize MusoFinder.com as a search engine and for posting “musician wanted” ads and will now be able to find other musicians anywhere in the world.

“We were looking into complex and expensive area and geocode searching systems, but then it occurred to us that we could simply use tags,” said Nick Burne, co-owner of MusoFinder.com, in a statement.

The new tagging system enables users to categorize themselves rather than Web developers. When visitors create a profile, they are asked to assign tags that can be used for location-based searches. MusoFinder.com has also expanded to include advertising, band and industry profiles, and popular music forums.

Burne feels that the new system not only benefits users, but also creates future flexibility and “a way to go global overnight” in a cost-effective manner.

“We are excited about the revamped site and are hoping that now that it’s free to access, we’ll attract a lot of new members,” he adds.
