What they do: Flavorpill began in October 2000 as a weekly newsletter about music events delivered to a few hundred friends and has since developed into a series of nine email magazines that include Flavorpill NY, LA, San Francisco, London, and Chicago, as well as Artkrush, Boldtype, Earplug, and JC Report. A tenth magazine, Activate, will be launched shortly.

Flavorpill and its various emails deliver quality, accessible information about events, art, books, music, and fashion, in each of the five Flavorpill cities. The recommendations include diverse and under-the-radar activities and profess to be strictly unbiased. Users insert their email address to receive weekly updates on the hottest happenings in their selected metropolis broken down by day of the week.

More than three hundred writers and editors search through event announcements, CDs, webpages, books, and magazines, while corresponding with well-connected people on the international scale to attain crucial cultural information.

The site itself includes selections from across the network that are refreshed daily and allows visitors to peruse the Flavorpill archive, examine selected current issues, and check out interviews, reviews. Amongst other features, there is an online bazaar and a list of websites that the Flavorpill staff “digs” that is regularly updated.

Why you should buy: Flavorpill media partnerships allow brands to reach a targeted demographic of 300,000 urban influencers. 70% of subscribers are between the ages of 25 and 34 and go out more than 3.3 times per week. This growing group of active readers consults each issue more than two times every week. The site, which was relaunched with a new design in March 2006, has searchable, syndicated RSS feeds for all five cities. Flavorpill occasionally puts on big events and helps media partners with creative projects, thus increasing brand exposure.

Format: Ads are integrated via IAB standard ad units on the websites and through multiple, custom-sized ad units in the email magazines. Video and rich media units are available on all Flavorpill properties. Flavorpill also offers expansive options like branded giveaways and innovative, custom content development.
