China’s Sohu Enters Ad Agreement with Joyo
Chinese web portal Sohu.com has signed a deal with online retailer Joyo.com to place Joyo ads on selected Sohu websites starting on June 20th, the date that Sohu will end its own online retail service.
“We believe this agreement with Joyo is the right step towards leveraging our e-commerce platform through China’s leading online retailer,” said Sohu CEO Dr. Charles Zhang in a statement. “Sohu’s expertise has always been in being a premier portal while Joyo’s expertise is in B2C e-commerce. Our agreement with Joyo is a very natural progression of our overall business strategy to grow our online advertising revenues.” Users who click on a Joyo ad will be redirected to the Joyo.com home page.
Joyo launched as an online book retailer in 2000, and has since become the Amazon of China, branching out into music, movies, electronics, gifts, and jewelry. It delivers products to more than 180 cities throughout China. Sohu.com has been around for ten years. Its web properties and services include its proprietary search engine, as well as topical sites like its gaming portal, real estate site, various wireless services, and an online mapping service. It also operates two MMORPG’s.
