GCap Radio Branches into Podcasting
London radio giant GCap is extending its reach past broadcast radio with the launch of free podcasts on subjects such as movies and fishing. The podcasts’s exclusive advertiser for a three-month trial period will be cell phone provider Orange. The podcasts will also include “UK Polish,” which offers information and news for the UK’s Polish community and “what’s on” guides heard on the radio such as “What’s On London,” “MovieCast” and “Literature Podcast.”
Orange will also place ads on creationpodcasts.com, a site that will be affiliated with the podcasts. GCap has created the podcasts in response to recent criticism that radio is unwilling to move into the 21st century by incorporating innovative technology and expanding its reach.
GCap is the number one London radio station for ages 15-44 as well as females in the age bracket and is poised to continue challenging its main competitor, the BBC. The company’s digital station Planet Rock has increased its listeners by 42% with a record 461,000 listeners across the UK and has been voted Sony Digital Station of the Year.
