What they do: Allrecipes.com is an online food, recipe, and cooking community site that caters to home cooks around the world. They currently have more than one million registered users who share, rate, and download recipes in categories like cooking method, main ingredient, seasonal, and ethnic origin. They also feature holiday meal plans, cooking tips, tools, and advice. Allrecipes also focuses on cooking community-building, and allows members not only to share their own recipes, but also to share photos, meal ideas, lists of favorite foods, personal profiles, and recipe reviews. They also publish several free food-related opt-in email newsletters.

In addition to advertising, Allrecipes sells Allrecipes cookbooks, featuring hundreds of recipes hand-picked by it members. They also publish special cooking-related offers from partners like Coupons.com and brand-centric recipes from folks like Weight Watchers, Sarah Lee, and Quaker.

Why you should buy
: Allrecipes.com had over 9 million visitors at the end of 2005. Members tend to visit the site at least twice each month, where over the past six months they have collectively viewed more than 203 million recipes, resulting in 1 billion trips to the grocery store and 2 billion home-cooked meals. Visitors tend to be overwhelmingly female, well educated, and between the ages of 25 and 34. Most of them shop online frequently, have the ability to purchase big-ticket items, and handle their family’s grocery purchases.
