Accoona’s Talking Search Bar Translates Online

Accoona, the artificial intelligence-based online search engine, has strengthened its ties in China with the release of its “Talking Search Bar” yesterday, which helps users all over the world learn English online. The company has teamed up with The China Daily Information Company, the largest English-language media and web company in China, to also launch the technology for Chinese Internet users exclusively through Accooona. The Search Bar is the first application of its kind linked to the Internet and can convert any web page’s text into speech, which is read aloud by a computer.

Accoona’s Chief Technology Officer, Steven Schwartz, tells ADOTAS, the “tool bar is enabled with voice technology. [For] any text you can see in a browser, highlight the text and press a button and it will talk to you.” Regarding the educational potential of the technology, Schwartz also explained, “Our partners at China Daily have discussed this – that it will help students of all ages in China to speak the spoken language of English.” Users can also listen to the text on one web page while continuing to surf the web.

Accoona’s new technology will soon help users read and listen to their emails, and the company is planning on expanding the technology to include multiple languages this year.
