Tucows Releases New Spam Tools for Bloggers

Today, Internet service and software provider Tucows released a new version of their Blogware software package that includes tools for defeating comment and trackback spam. Comments and trackbacks touting Viagra and cheap versions of Photoshop can annoy website visitors, drive away traffic, and contain links to spyware and phishing sites.

The anti-spam tools in Blogware allow a blog publisher to identify spam automatically and tell their Blogware service provider about where it’s coming from so they can add it to a Blogware blacklist. The new version also gives the publisher the ability to moderate their comments, so they can control what does and doesn’t appear on their sites.

“We believe Tucows is in a unique position to leverage our distribution model to create one of the most comprehensive blacklists in the blogging industry,” said Tucows CEO Elliot Noss in a statement. “Our strategy is to create a set of tools specifically designed to harness the reach of our channel and give service providers the information and tools they need to provide best-in-class blog spam protection to their customers.”
