The Interactive Job Market: Who’s Hiring, What They’re Looking for and How You Can Succeed
Linda Woods
President, PartnerCentric, Inc.
1. What do you look for in hiring an employee at your company, and what do you recommend that job applicants of any interactive media company do?
I look for BRAINS first, smart, well spoken people used to working in a fast paced environment with a strong grasp of who all the major players are. I look for results from their previous jobs on their resumes and like to know what they think they could do for my company better than what we do already.
2. What is the most difficult position you are having trouble filling and why?
Affiliate Program Directors – this requires 3-4 years of specifically affiliate marketing experience across multiple tracking platforms and managing different types of programs. Why – there’s not very many of these gems. We hire for Affiliate Managers, they can have less experience.
3. Given that our medium has been built by a younger generation and at times by people from other parts of the world, does age or cultural background have any bearing on your hires? (this with the understanding that most companies are EOE)
I hire from all over the country, and abroad, and while I don’t specifically look for younger folks, (I am over 40!), I do find that my younger hires have the energy, enthusiasm and cutting edge skills that I need.
4. What skill set do you find most applicants lack?
Good writing! And FOF – fear of fone.
5. What are you currently hiring for?
Marketing Communications Manager and Affiliate Manager or Affiliate Director.
