Sci-Fi Channel Goes Warp Speed Online

The SCI FI Channel has partnered with TV Guide to offer 1.4 million free downloads of an episode of science fiction drama Battlestar Galactica through iTunes. Today’s issue of TV Guide contains a 12-digit promo code that will let users access the episode, incidentally entitled “Downloaded,” guest-starring Lucy Lawless, which aired late last month.

“SCI FI is delighted to be working with TV Guide to provide this exclusive opportunity for free downloads of Batttlestar Galactica, which the magazine has already named one of the Top 10 shows of 2005,” said Blake Callaway, VP of brand marketing for the SCI FI Channel, in a statement. “If someone isn’t already a fan, then we are confident that sampling this episode on iTunes will bring them to SCI FI for more.” The promotional download coincides with Battlestar Galactica’s season finale, which airs this Friday.

Gemstar-TV Guide, TV Guide’s parent company, produces several on and off-line publications including the TV Guide Channel and TVGuide.com. In addition to their science fiction television network, the SCI FI Channel, owned by NBC Universal, also publishes SCIFI.COM, a website featuring science fiction-related news, book & movie reviews, and original interviews. Normal episodes of Galactica are available on iTunes for $1.99.
