Royal Caribbean Sets Sail with Rich Media Magazine

Yesterday, cruise line Royal Caribbean International launched a new email publication, called Explorer. They’re calling it a video magazine, and Royal Caribbean believes it is the first publication of its kind in the cruise industry. Created with rich media interactive agency IQ Interactive and ad agency Arnold Worldwide, Explorer features Flash-based interactive video and highlights different aspects of the cruise experience.

Explorer is available in both low and high-bandwidth versions. Each issue contains several video features. The premier Winter 2006 issue contains stories about the South Caribbean and Bermuda. Another feature follows several snorkelers as they swim with a school of stingrays, and another clip will take you behind the scenes with a cruise director.

“Cruising on a Royal Caribbean ship is about the fun and adventure of going to new places and doing new, exciting things,” said IQ Interactive CEO Tony Quin in a statement. “This is a new way for people to see what’s in store for them on a Royal Caribbean cruise and get them excited about the possibilities. There is no comparison between the impact of a video magazine such as this and a conventional web or print newsletter.”

The Explorer video magazine also contains quick links to a Royal Caribbean travel agent, cruise deals, and a button to send the issue to a friend.
