Microsoft and Epic Records reached an agreement yesterday to make exclusive music content and high-definition music video downloads free for a year to all Xbox 360 gamers. Over the next year, Xbox and Epic will highlight 12 up and coming artists through the Artist of the Month (AOM) program via the Xbox Live service, which is the only unified global online entertainment network.
Xbox Live members can also enter a monthly sweepstakes where the prize is a chance to game with the showcased musician for that month. British singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield will kick off the AOM program. She recently captured her second top 10 hit in the U.S. with the single “Unwritten,” which can be downloaded free on Xbox Live.
Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, said in a statement, “This agreement with Epic Records offers our members exclusive artistic content directly from the source. With Artist of the Month we will be providing exactly what music-loving gamers want: brand-new, exclusive music videos that can be downloaded quickly, easily and free of charge.”
