Lenny Kravitz Pushes Drugs in Rich Media?
With all new technological innovations, things don’t often always go right. I’m not going to blog too much about this, but I thought it was a little bit strange when I saw this advertisement. Initially it looked that Lenny Kravitz was offering me drugs — which I could download …now! However, that isn’t the case, it’s just an example of how two different technologies, one a rollover and another a simple Flash advertisement don’t quite work together when put on the same page.
Of course, there are a few points to learn from this (glad you asked, always happy to give out some advice):
1) Make sure that you don’t run rollover ads that may block other ads. Among other things, the combining of the two ads for an unintended experience can happen, and you can upset other advertisers who notice that their paid ads are blocked.
2) Make sure your technology, especially rollovers, full page sliders and other similar nifty rich media inventions work not only on the serving solution that you are serving, but “overlays” other rich media providers when activated.
3) Ask for specific sites where the advertisement is showing up, and go test it yourself. If you haven’t learned anything yet, you shouldn’t trust networks to always ensure that placements are always where they should be.
