Google Buys Web Word Processor Writely

Google has announced its purchased Silicon Valley startup Upstartle, whichproduces a collaborative web word processor called Writely. Writely users can access their documents from anywhere, share their documents with others, and collaborate online within their browsers.

The beta version of Writely was launched in August 2005 and according to a post by Jen Mazzon from the Google Writely Team on Google’s blog, “many thousands of people have registered, and all of them came through word of mouth (and blog).” Writely is still in beta form, and Writely is not accepting new registrations until it has been moved to Google’s software architecture. Users who are interested in trying Writely can put their names on a waiting list on Writely’s website. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
