MSN Classifieds Get More Local than Local

Towards the end of last year, Microsoft said they were developing a classified service to integrate into Windows Live. Last month, they showed off a preview of it at CES. And last week, MSN started beta testing their free Windows Live Expo social classified service.

The beta started with Microsoft employees and then expanded later, adding MS alums, and students and alums of Washington University. The test is still currently closed to the public, but Microsoft has set up an email update page that will let interested parties receive an email alert as soon as Expo is open to more people.

Currently, Expo works with a small handful of MSN services including Messenger, which lets customers chat directly with sellers, Spaces, which lets sellers post their ads on their Spaces blogs, and Windows Live Local, which can list classifieds like real estate and events by location. The limited test allows Live Expo team to control and monitor the growth of the project.

MSN Classifieds is free, and supported by ads powered by Kanoodle. Features are similar to Craigslist, but Expo devs believe the “social” integration with other MSN services, allowing customers and sellers to communicate with each other will give Windows Live Expo a more targeted local edge over its competitors.
