In a move that could open the floodgates to online advertising opportunities, BBC Magazines will launch several websites for its magazine brands outside of the bbc.co.uk umbrella, including sites for Good Food, an adult cooking title, and Top of the Pops, a music magazine targeting teenage girls based on the TV show of the same name. Top of the Pops already has a website under the bbc.co.uk where users can listen to music and find news, gossip, charts, videos, and program information.
According to Brand Republic, BBC Magazines is working with magazine publishers to develop online ideas that reflect the success of two BBC magazine websites, Top Gear and Radio Times websites. Top Gear, a car magazine for adults, currently has a website under the bbc.co.uk umbrella as well as an independent site. Radio Times only has an independent website and covers TV, radio and film with daily listings for TV and radio on the BBC channels as well as film reviews.
BBC Magazines is a branch of BBC Worldwide.
