Rubel Spreads Hogwash Virally
While surfing Threadwatch today I caught a little piece about Steve Rubel’s newest adventure, which seems to involve professional kvetching. Or judging pro kvetchers. Or something on that general theme… Anyway, here’s what’s brewing:
Rubel’s been asked to serve as a judge in a new “conversational marketing campaign” that encourages people to blog stories about all the many, tiny, irritating ways in which they’ve been shafted by companies—from bad service in the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through to complaints about the shortcomings of a public school education. Visit EveryDay Hogwash to contribute your own tale of frustration and you could win as much as $200 and a spot in the weekly competition. Weekly winners will collect an additional $1,000 and a place in the finals, where they’ll compete to win the big $5,000 prize.
$5,000 for griping? This ought to be one hell of a competition. But what any of this has to do with the campaign’s sponsor—SunRocket, “the no-gotcha phone company”—even Rubel himself admits he can’t figure out.
Meanhwhile, don’t forget to say thank you to the creators of the spot, GMD Studios, for adding some much needed positivity to the world. Oy.
