Of all the things the Internet is great for, I’d never paused until today to consider this one: getting married.

Turns out that a couple separated by thousands of miles—and who have never actually met—were recently married via video link between his homeland of the United States and hers of Indonesia.

The couple first met online several months ago, and after a bit of interactive courtship, decided to tie the knot. But when the groom, who is a California resident, couldn’t get time off from his job as a psychotherapist to make the trip to Malaysia (where his bride works as a teacher), they decided to simply jump the broom on the Web.

Is it legal? So far the Muslim cleric who witnessed the proceedings is saying it is. And in case you’re wondering whether the newlyweds have any plans to actually meet, the answer is yes: the bride is planning a trip to the US shortly to come face to face with her groom.

Ah, love…
