Intel Launches Viiv, Partners with DIRECTV
Intel made a big splash at Friday’s Consumer Electronics Show by introducing its new Viiv technology, which will give consumers a broad choice of infotainment from across the globe.
In accordance with the launch, Intel announced its first Viiv-based partnership with DIRECTV, who in the latter part of 2006 will offer remote viewing its programming and entertainment services on PC screens, laptops, portable media players and set top boxes through Viiv technology. Both parties are also plotting an extensive joint-marketing campaign which they hope will educate consumers about the benefits of Intel’s digital home efforts along with DIRECTV’s entertainment experience.
During the presentation, Intel CEO/President Paul Otellini summed it by saying “this effort will help re-shape how consumers view their digital programming with a television leader such as DIRECTV embracing the PC and Intel Viiv technology. DIRECTV is providing its customers with ultimate control over how and when they enjoy their entertainment and information, which also accelerates our shared vision of delivering an easier and more secure digital entertainment experience to families when and where they want it.”
