ABC News Offers Ad-Supported Model

Following the successes of Salon.com and the Economist.com’s “day-pass” ad model, Disney-owned ABC News began introducing the ad-supported model to their online 24-hour cable channel users.

Previously, ABC News Now’s (formerly ABC New Live) users were paying either $39.95 for an annual subscription or $4.95 a month to use the service. Now, in exchange for watching an ad from beginning to end in addition to a few scattered ads and sponsorships, users will get full access to the site at no charge. Some of ABC News Now’s on-demand content includes such names as 20/20, Primetime, and World News Tonight.

The site’s current day-pass spot is being held by AT&T, Inc.’s national “Your World. Delivered,” campaign.
